31st Sayfol Games 2016

Feb 28, 2016 | Events & Activities, Galleria

On Saturday 27th of February Sayfol International School held their 31st Annual Sports Day. This year’s event was an undoubted success, that showcased our students’ abilities in sportsmanship and teamwork.

The day began early and our students we all well presented in their new Sports Day attire. The day began with a well-coordinated March Pas by the 5 houses after the inspection of the Guard of Honour by the Principal.. As we welcomed in the day, the games were officially opened by our Founder Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Haji Ghulam Mohd Sayeed, and after his rousing speech the Sayfolians were ready to pit their houses against each other in the pursuit of sporting excellence.

Basking under the morning sun the houses of Marigold, Tulip, Violet and Shamrock we ready to try and knock 5 times champion house Clover off their perch. The Sayfol Marching Band, Ampang Ttotbagi and the Prefectorial Board added a musical twist to the days precedings and all did the school proud with their respected performances. This was followed by the Primary school cheerleaders who wowed their audience with a dazzling display.

The warm up to the track events continued and the crowd were treated to a Skills Display from the Primary school featuring hoola hooping, football and basketball. The rest of the students had to be careful as the balls were flying everywhere, as the Skills Display Team showed off all the trickery and movements of a professional team. Not to be outdone the Secondary School girls put on a Zumba performance which had all the audience dancing away in their seats.

It was time for the Secondary School Houses to step into the area and combat each other with their drill performances. The houses had been gearing up for months for this event and all put on a controlled well synchronised performance. The eventual winners were Tulip house who vanquished all opponents with a precise unified display.

The track event was an unparalleled success. With each house fighting valiantly, giving their all in pursuit of legendary status. Each house had victories during the course of the day and the audience was impressed with the abilities of all of our students. Sandwiched in between the races the Primary School and Years 7 and 8 put on a novelty race which endeared them all to the crowd.

The day was brought to a close with the Tug-of-War competition. This engrossing spectacle saw Violet House from the Primary and Tulip House from the Secondary come out victorious. As everybody waited for the final results to be announced it was too close to call. Marigold House had given their all, but in the end…… and…… for a sixth year running Clover House took home the gold. As the students celebrated it was time for everyone to reflect on what a glorious event the 31st Sayfol Games was and wonder how on earth this year could be topped. What will the 32nd Sayfol Games have in store for us?

My 11 years in Sayfol International School have been overwhelming. Time flew by unbelievably fast, where it did not even feel as if I have been in Sayfol International School for that long. My eagerness to graduate quickly in primary school has now become mixed emotions, where now I feel quite sad yet excited for my next step in life. Hard times during my journey in Sayfol International School have been made easier from the guidance by teachers and friends which I will never forget. With that being said, I’m happy to say that I will never forget my years in Sayfol International School.

I joined Sayfol in Primary 1 and I have continued to study until A Levels. For the past 13 years, Sayfol has given me wonderful experiences. It’s been a place to learn and develop. Sayfol has prepared me fully for my next chapter in life, being a student in Seoul National University. I am glad to have studied in an institution that has helped me to reach my goals and I am saying it from the bottom of my heart. The school is really committed in nurturing students and tailors to the needs of individual students. Everyone at Sayfol including the administration staffs are helpful and approachable. I am able to ask for assistance given. In addition, I feel Sayfol will be able to help and bring out the best in its students as long as they are willing to listen and learn. The school has students from all over the world. We are taught to be tolerant and respect one another. As I am able to embrace different cultures, thus I am able to mingle well with all.

Sayfol throughout the years has been a place for everlasting memories to be made. Be it amazing teachers that I miss so dearly already, friends that will inevitably last a lifetime and interactions with everyone in and out of class that truly shaped all of us into who we are now. It’s an incredible honour to be the valedictorian of my year and it could not have been achieved without the relentless determination of our teachers to constantly push me to achieve my best. We truly underappreciate the diversity and accepting nature of this school, and to say I will miss it all would be a gargantuan understatement. Thank you for all the memories, lessons and experiences that I will be sure to carry on throughout my life.

My journey in Sayfol started the moment I stepped into Primary 1. From there, the next 11 years went like a flash. I still think back and recall the moments, which I will always cherish. Along the way, I met different types of people, made friends, lost a few and, not to forget, learned something new every day. I won’t say I never faced any obstacles, but overcoming them made me who I am today. I can sincerely say that the past 3 years had been the best years of my life. I will really miss all the good times of laughter and fun, along with some difficulties and mischief. I will never forget the teachers who helped guide me to reach the light at the end of the tunnel. Most of all, my friends with whom I have missed spending time with. My time at Sayfol International School has truly been a remarkable ride and it’s time for us to take the next step forward.

I have studied within the walls of Sayfol since 2008, the year I entered Year 1. In the years following that, Sayfol has taught me invaluable lessons of friendship through the students and teachers I have met and become acquainted with. The jovial bouts of laughter we enjoyed in lessons that were altogether too tense for growing minds, hung on joy. Leadership, during my period serving the Prefectorial Board of our school and through my efforts and opportunities granted to me, becoming Deputy Head Prefect. I daresay my school has been more receptive to talent, creativity and positivity, and I am grateful to all the teachers for upholding the Sayfol crest; Ms. Zuraidah, my Prefect Teacher, Mrs. Chandran (who always scared my friends and I a bit, all in good humor) and of course, Mrs. K, the ever watchful eagle-eye who ensures the growth of all the students. Without them, would I be with my 7A*s? I should think not!

I have been here since kindergarten and over the years, I have seen so many changes. From the countless teachers who have come and gone to the friends I have made and lost. Most of all, I have seen myself change within the walls of this school. I feel that’s what this school is all about. Being in Sayfol International School is not just about academic learning, but to find the people you need to help you change. This school provides (most of the time) an environment just for that. A hotpot of different people; among them, friends who could help better you. I’m thankful to have found my best friends around the world. I have so many memories, moments and milestones that I’ve experienced and lived in this school, and it is bittersweet to say goodbye for now.

Thank you for providing us with so many opportunities that got us to explore the new world. Most importantly, thank you for never giving up on me. I would like to thank all the teachers who dedicated themselves to help us achieve our dreams and goals. It has been a privilege to have all of you as our teachers. You took the time to explain assignments and new topics, sometimes repeatedly because we weren’t paying attention. You allowed us to come to you during school lunch time and break time for extra help when you could rest and enjoy yourself. I will never forget those sweet and sour days that we’ve spent with you. Those are our precious memories and it will always remain fresh in our minds. Thank you very much dear teachers and administration officers, who helped me with my application for the Harvard Summer programme, where I met a lot of friends and professors. I am deeply grateful to everyone for giving me the honour of being your Head Prefect, student and friend and for all the support and, indeed, the joy you have given me.
